Arden Beddoes (he/him)

Arden is a seasoned and creative litigator, with extensive experience in complex cases from a range of disciplines. He has appeared as lead counsel before all levels of court in British Columbia, Ontario, and Alberta, as well as at the Federal Court and before various administrative tribunals.

Arden's commercial litigation practice is bolstered by his strong financial and business acumen. He has litigated a wide range of business disputes, and his deep understanding of corporate finance allows him to quickly understand his clients’ business realities. Before law school, Arden began his professional career as an investment banker in New York.

Arden also maintains an active public law practice. He has acted for and against government entities, represented clients before a number of administrative tribunals, and regularly acts for applicants and interveners in cases concerning the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

As an active participant in the legal profession, Arden has presented on a range of issues at law schools and continuing legal education seminars. His commentary has appeared in a variety of legal and mainstream publications.

Arden is well-regarded by clients and peers. He has been recognized for three consecutive years by Benchmark Litigation Canada as a "Future Star". He has also appeared in the same publication's "40 & Under Hot List" for 2021 through 2023, which recognizes the country's top emerging litigation talent. Arden is listed in the Lexpert 2022 Special Edition for Litigation and has been recognized by Lexpert as a "leading lawyer to watch" for commercial litigation. He has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada in its 2024 edition as a leading lawyer for corporate and commercial litigation.

Before founding Beddoes Litigation, Arden practiced for eight years at leading commercial and public law litigation firms in Toronto and Vancouver, learning from some of Canada's most prominent litigators.

He clerked at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, where he worked extensively on cases on the Commercial List. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2012, and the British Columbia bar in 2015. He holds an honours degree in economics and political science from Brown University, where he was awarded Academic All-Ivy honours in 2005. He received his law degree from the University of Toronto, graduating in 2011.

Justin Wiebe (he/him)

Justin has a diverse civil litigation practice, with a focus on commercial and administrative law matters. He frequently appears as counsel before the Supreme Court of British Columbia and British Columbia Court of Appeal, and has argued contested hearings in a range of legal contexts.  

Justin has extensive experience in all aspects of the litigation process. He has drafted pleadings and legal submissions in a wide variety of matters. He has also worked extensively with witnesses, and prepared for and attended numerous examinations under oath.​

Justin has considerable research, writing, and advocacy experience which he gained through law school and in private practice. He attended the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, where he worked at the International Justice and Human Rights Clinic, and was selected as a member of the official independent research group for the Canadian All-Party Parliamentary Group to End Modern Slavery. He also worked on a variety of pro bono legal projects, including at Pivot Legal Society and the Homeless ID Clinic at the Lookout Society's Powell Street Getaway, in Vancouver. During the summer after his second year of law school, Justin worked at a firm in Northern British Columbia, where he researched and drafted court documents in civil and family law proceedings.

Prior to law school, Justin obtained a Master of Science degree from the University of Edinburgh, School of Social and Political Science, where he graduated with distinction. He also holds two degrees from the University of Winnipeg: a Bachelor of Science degree in biopsychology, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology, for which he was awarded the Gold Medal for the highest standing in the program.

Justin was called to the bar in 2021, after articling with the firm.

Sydney Gomez (she/her)

Associate

Sydney has a broad general civil litigation practice, applying a passion for advocacy and a track record of academic success. She has experience in a range of commercial and administrative law matters.

Sydney has appeared as counsel before the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the British Columbia Court of Appeal, and has argued several contested hearings. She is acutely attuned to the needs of clients, and has worked extensively with clients and witnesses on sensitive legal issues.

Sydney graduated from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia in 2020, where she received an award for the highest standing in Insurance Law, as well as a Dean’s Scholarship for academic achievement.

She summered and articled with a leading national firm where she worked on significant commercial litigation files, prepared materials for the BC Supreme Court, and drafted factums for the Court of Appeal. She has also worked in private business as the Chief of Operations for a local plant-based food startup, where she engaged with clients, established business partnerships, and negotiated contracts.

Sydney holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Victoria, where she graduated with Highest Distinction and was a Presidential Scholarship and Dean’s List recipient every year. She had the highest standing in psychology for three consecutive years and received a Letter of Commendation for Outstanding Performance in Mathematics and Statistics.

Sydney was a member of the British Columbia provincial debate team from 2009 to 2011, and a member of the province’s development team for cross-country skiing from 2008 to 2011.

She was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2021.

Hasti Ali (she/her)

Legal Administrative Assistant

Hasti Ali is a Legal Administrative Assistant at the firm. Hasti has considerable experience providing support for complex litigation practices, having previously worked at a leading litigation boutique in Vancouver. She has a deep understanding of the litigation process in British Columbia, and is familiar with a wide variety of court forms and procedures. She is also highly proficient in an array of business and legal software, strengthening the firm's commitment to providing legal services efficiently by using the latest available technology.

In addition to her work at Beddoes Litigation, Hasti is pursuing a degree in political science, and intends to pursue a career as a lawyer in the future. Hasti is also fluent in Farsi.
